July 2nd, 2007 - New Update: Denial of Bovina's Citizens' Right to Vote
THE ALLIANCE FOR BOVINA

In an historic vote on March 13, 2007, after months of controversy and research, the Bovina Town Board banned wind turbines from this scenic Catskill town. Bovina is the first town in the Catskills to take a clear position against industrial wind development. The Bovina vote follows a twelve-month moratorium during which residents made their views known to town officials through open meetings sponsored by the board, hundreds of letters, a town survey, a petition, and a poll sponsored by industrial wind opponents. The vote was three in favor of a ban, one opposed. About sixty people attended the public hearing before the vote.

December 30, 2006 - A Bovina Taxpayers Response to the Survey - PDF Please read this aloud into the record at the next Town Board meeting. How one experiences a commercial wind turbine site is also relevant if the point of the question is to measure the respondents' knowledge of wind turbines' effect on an area. For example, driving by an installation for a few minutes at a large distance is a very different experience than standing directly under one. Seeing them on a ridge line is different than on a prairie. Listening to them when the wind is blowing or not is different. Listening to them when mountains shape the sound or where mountains don't is different. Seeing them when the sun is shining and low is different than at midday or when it is cloudy.
