How does the Alliance use your donation?
THE ALLIANCE FOR BOVINA has been hard at work to oppose industrial wind turbines in our town and the surrounding area since March 2006. Starting with a call for a moratorium, we have sounded the alarm on this issue and gotten the public involved. We have sent out several mailings to all residents, produced the short film The Voices of Tug Hill, taken ads in local newspapers and promoted large turnouts at the Town’s wind workshops. We have engaged legal counsel to guide us through the moratorium process and review possible wind ordinances. The Alliance has sponsored an important informational meeting that was organized and staffed by many volunteers from our community.
THERE IS STILL MUCH TO DO. The Town Board and Planning Board have not yet taken a position on this issue and we must continue to encourage them to do the right thing. We are asking them to pass a tough ordinance (similar to the one passed unanimously by the town of Malone, NY) that would ban industrial wind turbines and allow only small turbines for individual use. Unfortunately, powerful corporate and political forces are pushing industrial wind energy and our Board members need to know that we will stand behind them if they decide to say “no” to an industrialized Bovina and “yes” to a scenic and safe Bovina. We will continue to raise public awareness with newspaper ads, mailings to all residents, and letter writing campaigns. We will continue to be at each and every one of the Town Wind Workshops and will follow county and state political developments closely. As needed, we will seek expert legal advice. All of this requires commitment and a good deal of resources.

Attend the Town’s Wind Workshop every first and third Monday, 6PM, at the Bovina Community Hall. Finally, you can help with the financial burden of this important fight.
