What is a Windplant Ordinance?
Towns with zoning law, such as Bovina, can amend the law to regulate the construction of industrial wind turbines. Some laws are very specific and restrictive others are not, depending on the wishes of the town board. The Alliance for Bovina has presented our town board with copies of a very restrictive law passed by the town of Malone, NY which we believe would be suitable for Bovina.

The Malone “Windplant Ordinance” was adapted in May 2006 and is a model for many communities which face the threat of industrial wind turbines. It was passed unanimously by the Malone Town Board on the recommendation of their Planning board – which is what we hope will happen in Bovina. It allows for small wind turbines, up to 125 in height, that are intended to provide electricity on-site for a single home, farm or small business. It does not allow large, industrial wind turbines at all. It’s that simple.
